Local campaigner Carmel Oates selected as Conservative Candidate for Milford Council by-election

Carmel moved to Brook 25 years ago and is passionate about local issues such as planning and environment that shape where we live.  Carmel is currently a parish councillor representing Milford, where she is a member of the Finance & General Purposes, Planning & Highways and Staffing Committees.  Carmel is also the lead member for the Waverley & Western Villages Traffic Task Group.

Carmel has worked in procurement for a tele-communications company in Guildford for over 20 years. She is married with three children at local schools/colleges and likes to spend her spare time gardening and walking the family dog along the numerous parish public footpaths.

Conservative Group Leader at Waverley Borough Council, Cllr Julia Potts says, “Milford is a great village and Carmel will be a huge asset for the Council. As both a local resident and the Milford Ward Parish councillor she has a unique insight into the challenges faced locally. Her experience on the Parish council planning committee and as a qualified Quantity Surveyor will allow Carmel to cast a critical eye on planning applications, ensuring they are robust to meet infrastructure needs and that pre-conditions are met.”

Other issues that Carmel is concerned with are the development of the Neighbourhood Plan and tackling anti-social behaviour in the area so that all residents feel safe to enjoy the area that they live in.
