Wrecclesham Road Safety

LATEST NEWS: JULY 2019

Success and persistence have paid off in Wrecclesham with the new Over Height Vehicle Activated Signs (OHVAS) now installed and fully operational. What's more after campaigning by Jeremy, local Councillors and members of the Wrecclesham community, the bridge has also got a bright new neon, yellow stripe to draw attention to drivers of high vehicles.

Thanks to everyone who was involved in this team effort! This continues to be a potentially hazardous bridge, but these steps and others which the community, council and Network Rail have taken will help to make this road and bridge safer for residents and drivers.

Jeremy Hunt MP said:

“I am very pleased the new signs have finally been manufactured and arrived in the UK ready for installation. Some important electrical works now need to be implemented on site in Wrecclesham and once done, the new signs are scheduled for installation at the end of this month.

“Furthermore to mitigate the risk of future bridge strikes at this location, I have been informed that Officers in Surrey County Council are liaising with Highways England Officers and Hants County Council with regards to amending A3 diversion routes, some of which utilise the A325 as the diversion route for both planned works and emergency closures. I sincerely hope this brings an end to these dangerous and all too frequent bridge strikes.”

Background:

Jeremy, like many residents and constituents is very concerned about the on-going road safety issues in Wrecclesham (just outside Farnham). A very sad fatality in 2017, numerous accidents and near misses have been all too frequent not to mention regular over-turned HGVs causing road chaos. Jeremy recognises this is unacceptable and is working with The Wrecclesham Village Voice Group, Surrey County Council and Local Councillors to bring about some urgently needed improvements to the roads and local infrastructure.
